A pedestrian sidewalk along the east side of the span, from the Presidio end in the city to the north end in Marin County.
Why it's unique
There is one Golden Gate Bridge and you can walk across it for free, tower to tower, with the city on one side of you and the strait below.
This entry makes no claim about length or height. It is here because people cross the world to do exactly this, and it cannot be done anywhere else.
Before you go
Check the time before you set off. The clocks changing on 1 November moved the gate closure from 9pm to 6:30pm until early March, and the gates lock. Walkers get the east side only, which faces the city.
Cyclists may share the east side on weekdays but go west at weekends, and must drop to 5mph at the towers because the sightlines are short. The Welcome Center displays the original 12-foot test tower, and the old Round House is now a coffee shop.
