The Yokohama Bay Bridge Sky Walk, a pedestrian walkway hung beneath the road deck of the Bay Bridge and ending in an observation room. It opened in 1989, closed in 2010, and reopened in June 2022 after renovation.

Why it's unique

There is no other pedestrian deck under a major Japanese suspension bridge that the public can walk. You are under the traffic, over the harbour mouth, for ten minutes each way.

It is free, and because so few people know it is open again, and fewer still know the days, it is rarely busy.

Before you go

It opens on Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays only, 11:00 to 18:00, and not over New Year. Yokohama City publishes the calendar as monthly PDFs, so check the specific date before travelling.

There is no station anywhere near it. Take the bus from Yokohama Station East Exit stand 14 or Tsurumi Station East Exit stand 6. There are camera-lens apertures cut into the barrier at intervals so you can shoot cleanly through it. Because it closes at 18:00, a night view is only possible in midwinter.
