Tenma Tenjin Hanjōtei, opened in 2006 beside Osaka Tenmangū, is the dedicated theatre for Kamigata (Osaka-style) rakugo, with a daily afternoon bill of rotating storytellers.
Why it's unique
It is the daily house for Kamigata rakugo, the Osaka form of comic storytelling. Whether it is the only one is less certain, so the claim should be held at country if challenged.
What you do is sit through an afternoon bill as regulars do, storyteller after storyteller, in the theatre the form now calls home.
Before you go
The afternoon show (doors 13:00, 13:30 to about 16:10) is the regular house programme; evenings are special shows.
It is all in Osaka dialect; go for the rhythm even without the language.
