Kobe Shinkaichi Kirakukan (喜楽館), opened in July 2018, is Hyogo's only daily yose (storytelling theatre), and the first daily venue in Kobe in 42 years. Shinkaichi was once called "Asakusa in the east, Shinkaichi in the west".
Why it's unique
It is the only theatre in Hyogo staging storytelling every day, and the first in Kobe in 42 years.
It stages Kamigata, Osaka-style rakugo, the Kansai tradition, in a 212-seat room, in a district that was once the west's answer to Tokyo's Asakusa.
Before you go
It is Kamigata (Osaka-style) rakugo, the Kansai tradition, in a 212-seat room. Shows are in Japanese; go for the experience of the room and a matinee slot that fits a day of sightseeing.
Pair it with lunch at one of Shinkaichi's pre-war canteens on the arcade. A price revision was announced in September 2026.
