See Osaka's own ukiyo-e, the actor prints Edo never made

The only museum of Kamigata ukiyo-e

The only one on EarthKamigata Ukiyoe Museum

The Kamigata Ukiyoe Museum, opened in 2001, permanently shows Kamigata ukiyo-e: the realistic actor prints made for Dōtonbori's kabuki houses, as opposed to Edo's idealised style.

Why it's unique

Time Out describes it as the only museum anywhere permanently showing Kamigata ukiyo-e, and Namba Keizai Shimbun and osaka-info corroborate the collection.

What you see here is a school of print-making most ukiyo-e collections barely hold, and you can try printing yourself on the fourth floor.

Before you go

It is tiny (four floors of about 60 m²), so go for the rotating exhibition, changed about every three months, and the fourth-floor print-making session.

Compare the faces with Edo prints: Kamigata actors look like specific people.
