Enter a speakeasy by pulling a book in a working bookstore
Pull the right spine
A small bookshop in the Highlands, properly stocked and properly staffed, where pulling the correct volume from a particular shelf releases the bookcase and opens the cocktail bar behind it.
Why it's unique
The shop is real. That is the whole distinction, and it is a meaningful one — most hidden-bar entrances are a door with a sign, or a facade nobody maintains.
Here someone is working the counter, the books are for sale, and you have to ask. The staff will not volunteer it, which turns arriving into a small performance rather than a queue.
Before you go
You have to actually ask. People stand in the shop looking for a lever and leave.
No reservations, so go early or expect to wait — and the wait happens in the bookshop, which is not the worst place to spend twenty minutes.
