Climb the naga staircase to the mountain temple
306 steps
The city's signature temple, 15 km up Doi Suthep, reached by a 306-step staircase flanked by two enormous naga serpents.
Why it's unique
The terrace looks out over the entire Chiang Mai valley, and the gilded chedi at the centre is among the most venerated in northern Thailand.
Before you go
There is a funicular if the steps are too much. Go early or late; the middle of the day is both hot and full. Haze season from February to April can erase the view entirely.
