Acres of cut flowers under bare bulbs in the small hours, moving in bunches between growers, wholesalers and the street vendors who will sell them by bicycle at daybreak.
Why it's unique
Quang Ba is the largest wholesale flower market in the north, and it runs its wholesale session between roughly two and four in the morning before turning over to retail at dawn. It supplies the flower sellers you see cycling around the city all day, drawing stock from the city's own flower villages, the highlands and abroad.
The adjacent produce market runs on the same clock, peaking around three as the trucks come in. This is a working night economy that residents participate in and visitors almost never see, and it exists at this scale and this hour because of how the city's flower trade is structured.
Before you go
Two to three in the morning is the window. Stalls are fully stocked then, and by five the good stock has gone to the vendors and you are looking at what nobody wanted.
This is a working wholesale floor and not an attraction: stand out of the way of the porters, and do not expect to buy a single stem, because everything moves in bunches. Nothing here is priced for you and haggling is not really the point. Pair it with sunrise on the old bridge afterwards, which is a twenty-minute walk.
