The Nintendo Museum opened in October 2024 in the Uji Ogura plant, built in 1969 to make toys. It covers everything from the 1889 hanafuda cards to the consoles, with play stations worked by coins included in admission.

Why it's unique

It is the only museum Nintendo runs, with one site. Nintendo's stores are a multi-site format (Tokyo, Osaka, Kyoto), but the museum is not.

It sits in the company's own former toy plant and runs the whole history, from the hanafuda cards the company started with in 1889 to the consoles, with play stations you actually use rather than look at.

Before you go

No tickets are sold at the door. You enter a monthly lottery through a free Nintendo Account, three months ahead (January 2027 entries are open now). The booking is in your own name and ID is checked. The hanafuda-making workshop needs a separate same-day booking and fee once you are inside, so go to that counter first.

There is no parking and no taxi or car drop-off. Arrive by Kintetsu (Ogura, 5 minutes) or JR (Ogura, 8 minutes). The new bus route 64 (Uji to Ogura line) loops the Keihan and JR Uji stations, the museum and Kintetsu Ogura.
