Your own cup, sealed while you watch
A noodle company's first concept store, in a shophouse at 46 and 48 Jalan Hang Jebat. The shop is free to walk into; the Noodle Doodle workshop is ticketed and takes fifteen to thirty minutes.
Why it's unique
Mamee is a Malaysian noodle company and its first concept store is a shophouse on Jonker Street. In the Noodle Doodle workshop you pick a soup base from four, choose your own condiments, draw on the cup, and then watch it sealed and packed to take away. A demonstration line elsewhere in the building shows how the company's monster snack is made.
A second Mamee Jonker House opened later in Kuala Lumpur, which makes this the original rather than a branch, and that is the claim: the first one, in the shophouse the format was designed for. What you leave with is a sealed cup of noodles with your own drawing on it.
Before you go
The workshop takes fifteen to thirty minutes depending on how seriously you take the colouring, and it is the one thing on the Jonker Street tourist strip that children actually remember.
Book the workshop slot rather than turning up at the weekend. The shop is free to walk into but the noodle session is ticketed and fills. Curry laksa is the base to pick if you want it to taste like Malaysia rather than like a souvenir.
