Why it's unique
Vietnam has plenty of hot springs. What is unusual at Kenh Ga is the pairing and the approach: a mineral-heavy spring holding a constant 53C at the foot of a limestone hill, used for bathing and treatment, sitting beside a settlement whose houses float on the river, and reachable by boat rather than by road.
That means the trip is a river journey with a bath at the end of it rather than a spa visit. The floating village is the part worth lingering over and the part no itinerary sells, so the boat itself is half the experience.
Before you go
The spring is reached by boat, not by road, which is the fact most trip planning gets wrong. The standard local day pairs it with Van Long in the morning: punt at 8.30, den Thung La around 10, lunch, then the boat to the spring in the early afternoon.
Take the boat slowly through the floating village rather than heading straight for the bathhouse. That is the part worth lingering over and the part no itinerary sells. The whole area is genuinely flood-prone in autumn and has been cut off in past storms, so this is a dry-season trip, best October to April, and not one to attempt in or immediately after a storm.
