Himeji Takopii, formerly Takopia, has sold soft Akashi-style takoyaki under Himeji Station since 1959. You can have them with sauce, with dashi, or both.

Why it's unique

Here the Akashi-style soft takoyaki are brushed with sauce and then dunked in dashi, a combination customers started doing themselves and which became known as the "Himeji style". This counter is the original of that local way of eating them.

It is confidently local; whether it is found only in Hyogo is less certain, so the claim stays at that level. The shop makes its dashi from scratch with a blend of four kinds of katsuobushi.

Before you go

You can choose sauce only, dashi only or both; order both, sauce first. The shop blends four kinds of katsuobushi for the dashi and makes it from scratch.

It renamed itself and reopened after a refit in 2020, so older guides list it as Takopia.
