Why it's unique
A competitive fruitcake-throwing contest that has run every January since 1996, with separate events for distance, accuracy, balance and a basketball-style BasketCake. Mechanical launchers have long been part of it, and they produce distances no arm can match.
The scope claim is deliberately modest. Searching did not establish that this is the only such event anywhere in the world, and several write-ups imply it without stating it, so it is filed as the only one of its kind in the state rather than repeating an unverified superlative.
Before you go
You do not need to bring a fruitcake. They are available to rent at the event, which is the detail most people miss and the reason nobody has to be a spectator.
It is late January in the Colorado mountains, so it is genuinely cold and the event is entirely outdoors in Memorial Park. The mechanical launcher categories are the ones worth watching rather than the hand-thrown ones.
