Grand Cabaret Miss Osaka opened in May 1937 in Nipponbashi, was lost in the war, reopened on its present Minami site in 1947, burned in February 1952 and was rebuilt that June, per its own history page. It has two floors of chandeliers and a full stage with a grand piano.
Why it's unique
The entertainment historian Saijō Noboru calls it Japan's oldest and largest cabaret. The claim rests on his blog plus the club's own dated history, so it is held at country with lower confidence.
What you do is something almost gone elsewhere: an evening in a full-scale postwar grand cabaret, talking with companion staff, under posted prices.
Before you go
Go early in the evening, when it is quietest. The club's motto is "安心料金" (posted, predictable prices), which residents say is the difference from modern hostess bars.
Women visit too, including women-only tours; photography is banned. The companion staff range up to their seventies, and talking with them is the experience. The club is widely assumed to be the model for the cabaret in the Like a Dragon games.
