Take a doll to hospital

A trade that nearly vanished

The only one in Colorado

A working repair shop for dolls — restringing, repainting, replacing eyes and hair, rebuilding bodies — practising a trade that has very nearly disappeared.

Why it's unique

Doll hospitals were once ordinary and are now nearly extinct, because the skills are specialised, the work is slow, and almost nothing manufactured today is built to be repaired.

What survives here is not nostalgia but a functioning craft business, doing restoration on objects that are usually sentimental rather than valuable.

Before you go

It is a workshop, not an attraction. Treat a visit as visiting someone's place of work, and call ahead.

If you have something that needs repairing, that is by far the better reason to go.
