Eight linked shophouses at 51 Lorong Hang Jebat, immediately behind Jonker Street, holding galleries on Zheng He's voyages, a treasure-ship reconstruction and a garden courtyard. Open daily, 9am to 6.30pm.
Why it's unique
The Cheng Ho Cultural Museum occupies eight linked shophouses on Lorong Hang Jebat, some of them pre-dating 1786, running to over 5,110 square metres across three levels. It is the largest museum in the state and, by its own account, the largest Zheng He museum anywhere.
The stronger claim is the ground it stands on. This is believed to be the site of Guan Chang, the walled warehouse compound Zheng He built on the north bank of the river around 1409 to store goods between voyages, and the courtyard and well at the back are original fabric rather than display.

It is much bigger inside than the shopfront suggests and takes two hours if you read. The sections divide into Old Malacca Village, the ship gallery, a treasure-ship reconstruction, antiques and a garden courtyard.
