YOKOHAMA AIR CABIN, opened in April 2021 between Sakuragicho Station and Unga Park: 629 m in about five minutes, 36 eight-person cabins, up to 40 m above the canal.

Why it's unique

Its operator describes it as the first urban-type circulating ropeway in Japan: a gondola built to carry people across a city, not up a mountain or around a theme park.

It crosses the canal alongside the Kishamichi promenade, so the ride gives you the old harbour railway, the water and the Minato Mirai skyline from above.

Before you go

The fare is steep for five minutes, so the move residents make is to ride it one way, after dark, from Sakuragicho towards Unga Park, when the cabins and the whole Kishamichi corridor are lit. The daytime ride is a fairly ordinary view of a car park and a canal.

There is a combination ticket with Cosmo Clock 21 that is cheaper than buying both. No reservations: tickets are sold at the booth only.
